renovation, additions
a district-wide modernization that renews interior learning spaces while restoring exterior character.
A comprehensive evaluation of the Pelham School District led to a bond for renovations, additions, and improvements throughout the district. The program prioritized significant work at Pelham Memorial High School alongside targeted upgrades at the elementary schools to support learning, accessibility, and infrastructure renewal.
At the high school the scope focused on library and music renovations, refreshed classrooms and corridor finishes, faculty resource centers, and envelope repairs including slate roof replacement and masonry restoration. Elementary work added library media centers, elevators, and upgraded MEP systems to improve accessibility and long-term function.
project narrative
-
The district required a clear strategy to address deferred maintenance, aging systems, and evolving educational needs across multiple campuses.
To address this, the team developed a program of renovations and additions that balanced interior learning-environment upgrades with exterior repairs and infrastructure replacement.
Together these moves needed to preserve the school’s character while bringing spaces up to current standards.
-
The project concept focused on targeted interventions that reinforce learning, circulation, and durability while respecting the existing building fabric.
Building on this idea, interior renovations prioritize adaptable classroom finishes and reconfigured support spaces, while exterior work restores material character and improves enclosure performance.
This strategy reinforces a coherent district identity through material and spatial continuity.
-
Realization of the concept combined selective interior reorganization with systematic systems replacement and careful preservation of significant exterior elements.
Classrooms, the library media center, and music spaces received updated finishes and technology, faculty resource centers improved departmental adjacency, and MEP and fire-alarm systems were replaced to meet current standards.
Site improvements and a new maintenance facility address operational needs and accessibility.
project outcome
Corridors and departmental adjacencies support clear circulation between learning zones, reducing wayfinding friction for students and staff. Faculty resource areas and reconfigured support spaces clarify movement and establish more direct connections between classrooms and shared facilities.
Renovated media and music spaces increase daylight and sightlines, improving visual supervision and student engagement. Updated finishes and lighting reinforce material legibility and maintain distinct spatial identities while preserving visual continuity across corridors.
Mechanical, enclosure, and accessibility upgrades accommodate varied pedagogies and daily use while supporting long-term performance. Durable materials and systematic systems replacement reinforce longevity and simplify maintenance routines.
